The Botswana Housing Corporation’s effort to provide quality service delivery and timely delivery of projects continues as it handed over a total of 138 houses to Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) at Palapye recently.

Giving the background information of the project, the BHC CEO Mr Reginald Motswaiso stated that BHC and BPC signed an agreement on December 2012 for the development of staff housing units and associated infrastructure which includes storm water drainage, roads, water and power at Block 7 in Palapye along A1 Highway to Francistown.
“The agreement between BHC and BPC however was to construct a total of 138 comprising 45 low income housing units (Type 58), 88 Medium income housing units (Type 80) and 5 high income housing units (Type 110,” Mr Motswaiso said.

He revealed that the contract was split in to two components comprising 76 housing units which was awarded to CC Projects (PTY) Ltd at the tune of P40.3 Million for a period of 52 weeks while the other one consisting 82 housing units was awarded to Netbuilders (PTY) Ltd at the total sum of P34 Million over a period of 64 weeks.
Despite the timely delivery of the project, the Corporation experienced challenges during the construction of the houses, Mr Motswaiso has said. “In terms of the challenges experienced during the construction of this project, there were delays in provision of infrastructural services such as water and electricity, which we are all aware, are very critical in the delivery of our projects,” He admitted.

Mr. Motswaiso pointed out that the Corporation strives by all means to ensure that projects are delivered on time to avoid cost overruns as well as to deliver on promises made to the clients. He further cautioned contractors who deliberately engage inexperienced personnel with hope of maximising on their profits adding that the practice has a potential to lead to other undesirables.

Accepting the houses on behalf of BPC CEO, the BPC Audit General Manager Mr Ngele Gabriel Ngele was delighted to receive the houses. He said that the project will strengthen BPC’s housing capacity for its staff.

Mr Ngele commended the Corporation for the high standard and acceptable code of construction adding that the bilateral relations between the two corporations were genial in undertaking the project. “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to BHC’s CEO, Mr. Reginald Motswaiso and his team. The bilateral relations between the two corporations have indeed been cordial in undertaking the project. The completion of it is a true reflection of good stakeholder relationship management,” Ngele said.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and concern for the environment, the Corporation had earlier donated 300 trees to BPC and two trees were planted per house.
