BHC HANDS OVER SHHA TURNKEY HOUSES IN MOSHUPA SUB DISTRICT

The Botswana Housing Corporation recently handed over completed 20 SHHA turnkey houses in the Moshupa/ Manyana Constituency. The houses were built as part of the Government Housing Initiative drive aimed at providing Batswana with shelter and now coordinated under the auspices of the Corporation.
 
Welcoming guests at the handover held at one of the beneficiaries Mr Benjamin Motlogelwa’s homestead, Kgosi Oscar Mosielele said that the SHHA turnkey project is clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to improving the lives of Batswana by providing a roof over their heads.  “It is very encouraging and worthwhile to see Moshupa benefiting from this initiative coordinated by both the Council and BHC,” he said.
 
In his remarks the Minister of Lands and Housing, Honourable Prince Maele noted that shelter is primary basic needs for human beings as it also gives one the sense of belonging. He shared that since the mandate of his Ministry to make sure that Batswana are appropriately housed. The Minister further pointed out that his Ministry has plans to increase the housing stock in the country, adding that proper housing remains a major setback for human development in the world.

When officially handing over the houses to beneficiaries, the Vice President of the Republic of Botswana who is also Member Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi applauded the Ministry of Lands and Housing and BHC for ensuring that Batswana are accommodated. He further urged beneficiaries to do their part to ensure that the loans used to provide them with accommodation are paid back so that other fellow citizens can also benefit.
 
For his part the BHC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Reginald Motswaiso assured the gathering that the target of delivering 30 SHHA turnkey houses in the Moshupa Sub district at the end of June as agreed at the last Council sitting. He shared some of the challenges that the Corporation often is confronted with in the delivery of SHHA turnkey projects such as delays in starting projects by contractors and some who decided to abandon projects. He however was quick to note that some of the challenges have been addressed hence the improved project delivery. He urged beneficiaries to observe the six months waiting period to report any defaults within their houses despite these houses being regularly checked through the stages of building by Council Inspectors. He also commended the Moshupa Sub District Council for their continued assistance and guidance to ensure that SHHA Turnkey projects are delivered to beneficiaries.
 
When accepting his newly constructed SHHA House, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Benjamin Motlogelwa heaped praise on the Corporation and the Council for the gesture adding that he now has a place to call home and will be able to house his family. The Vice Council Chairman for the Southern District Council, Honourable Alec Seametso also thanked the Corporation for ensuring that houses are delivered on time to beneficiaries. HE also encouraged beneficiaries to ensure that the loans are paid back as this is a revolving fund meant to benefit other Batswana.

The handover ceremony was attended by among other, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Senior Government Officials, Tribal Leaders, Politicians and the Moshupa Community at Large.
