As a way of committing to meeting the expectations of valued clients, the Corporation recently successfully handed over ten complete housing units to Botswana Prisons Service in Gaborone.
Officiating at the handover ceremony the BHC CEO, Mr. Reginald Motswaiso stated that the project was constructed for a total sum of P10. 1 million over 40 calendar weeks beginning June last year. He revealed that the contract was awarded to Ragno Construction Company, a locally owned company in line with the Government’s effort towards citizen economic empowerment.
Although successful, the project encountered a fair share of challenges that led to delays. “It experienced some challenges associated with issuance of a building permit, which needed some requirements to be fulfilled as part of the construction procedure,” he said.

It was also discovered that there were rocks in other plots which needed to be blasted to pave way for construction, “that is in addition to bulk excavations which had to be done to remove waste on one of the plots.”Nonetheless these challenges were meticulously addressed and hence the delivery of the project on the day. Mr Motswaiso pointed out that the Corporation’s relationship with Botswana Prisons Service spans over two years during which the Corporation has successfully undertaken a number of projects on their behalf.
“We have in the past two years successfully delivered a total of two blocks of flats for BPS staff in Gaborone at Village. The project was completed early last year following which they entrusted us with yet another project in Francistown,” Said Motswaiso

According to Mr Motswaiso another housing project comprising of eight houses was delivered in Baines drift July and subsequently, nine houses in Mahalapye in August this year.
He further stated that the Botswana Prisons Service’s continuous engagement of the Corporation is a clear demonstration that they have confidence in the Corporation’s capabilities as a housing delivery arm of the Government, with the knowledge and expertise to do the projects.

Accepting the houses, the Botswana Prisons Service Commissioner Mr Silas Motlalekgosi acknowledged the timely delivery of the project. He said that the Corporation has managed to address the delays and the challenges encountered to deliver the project. Mr Motlalekgosi highlighted that the Botswana Prisons Service regards and acknowledges the cordial relationship with the Corporation. “Projects that were undertaken by BHC include Gaborone Flats, Francistown Flats, Bainesdrift housing units, Prison Staff College and the just completed Gaborone housing units which are being handed today,” he said. He urged the BPS staff to take care of the structures adding that accommodation plays a centrepiece in their reforms of staff welfare.
