HON. MAELE TOURS BHC PROJECTS IN FRANCISTOWN

The Minister of Lands and Housing Honourable Prince Maele recently toured Mophane Estate as part of the familiarization exercise meant for him to appreciate some of the challenges affecting this particular project and some of the solutions which have been proposed to address those. The tour which was led by the Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Housing Corporation, Mr Reginald Motswaiso commenced at Mophane at Gerald Estate where the Senior Estates Manager – Northern Region, Mr Olefile Segokgo introduced the project to the Minister and explained that currently the Corporation is doing remedial works on some houses which has been offered to various Government Institutions such as the Ministry of Education. Mr Segokgo explained that the Corporation has found a solution to deal with the cotton soil, which was said to be a major challenge especially during the rainy season. Other remedial work includes replacing some floor tiles, which were defective as well replacing electrical cables and other items which were vandalised.

The Minister also had an opportunity to visit one SHHA Turnkey house in Gerald Estate, which was about to be completed. The Building Inspector in charge of the SHHA Turnkey Projects explained that all SHHA Turnkey Projects are progressing well and on schedule. The last leg of the Minister’s tour took to Minestone behind Galo Shopping Complex, where the Corporation is considering the possibility of erecting some multi residential properties. The area is currently has low income properties which were build some time back.
