The Ministry of Lands and Housing recently held a housing PITSO under the theme “Dignified lives through housing” with a view to discuss issues pertaining to housing and land in general.

Officiating at the packed Avani Hotel Conference Centre, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Honourable Prince Maele said that issues of affordability continue to be at the centre stage of any public discourse in recent times. “It is not only topical, but is also a priority for most Government across the world,” he further pointed out. Honourable Maele shared that the demand for adequate housing has been exacerbated by rampant urbanization brought about by failing rural economies and worsening rainfall patterns that do not sustain rural agricultural participation.  He further stated that the adequate housing demand that keep escalating is also not helped by challenges faced by the poorer sector of our population who do have the means to even afford low income houses available in the market.

This year’s housing PITSO comes amidst Government’s efforts towards promoting homeownership amongst Batswana through various initiatives such as SHHA Turnkey, Public Officers Housing Initiative, Instalment Purchase Scheme and Youth Housing. It is through these initiatives that Honourable Maele informed attendees that his Ministry being at the forefront will strive to ensure that it provides Batswana with accommodation.
