The Botswana Housing Corporation Head Marketing and Communications, Mr. Tumo Kgatlwane has told the Letlhakeng District Development Committee that a lot of opportunities for housing provision abound following the establishment of Letlhakeng as a District Council.

Speaking at a recent meeting of the DDC which gathers Heads of Department from the District, Mr Kgatlwane said BHC has so much interest in being a partner of choice when it comes to alleviation of accommodation scarcity, which is the Corporation's mandate.

Citing the purpose of addressing such important fora as the DDC, Mr. Kgatlwane said it was in part an exercise of deducing housing demand for various Government and other Public bodies in the District. "Yes we do individual engagements with concerned entities to establish effective demand, but for now we have come to say trust us with your housing needs." He said.

The Corporation has been conducting a series of target marketing initiatives as part of a broader strategy aimed at forging relations with newly established districts. The establishment of these districts means creating Rural Administration Centres where the Government departments and agencies discharge their services in large numbers. Observers have identified this area as being opportunistic and ideal for the corporation's business development.

The District Commissioner who also chairs the DDC thanked the corporation for the appearance at the meeting saying it gave them a lot of hope going into the future. "We hope BHC will not be gone forever after today's meeting, because we definitely have an acute shortage of accommodation in the district." Tema said in an impassioned plea.

Meanwhile, at the same meeting Mr. Kgatlwane disclosed to the DDC that some 35 housing units built through the POHI in the Sojwe, Kaudwane and neighboring areas were all sold, a testament to the housing challenge prevailing in the area. BHC continues to address various District Councils through the office of the CEO and the Marketing & Communications Department.
