This morning the Corporation donated a total of five computer workstations and a printer to Sekgoma Primary School in Maun. The donation comes a couple of weeks following the launch of SmartBots village connectivity flagship project last month in Maun by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi.
When handing over the donation, which including presenting a refurbished computer lab/ library, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Housing Corporation, Mr Nkaelang Matenge said the refurbished computer lab is not just a physical space, but a gateway to the future. “It is a place where our learners will have the opportunity to explore, learn, innovate and create. In a world that is increasingly reliant on technology, having access to up-to-date equipment and software is critical,” he added. Matenge said learners will have the resources they need to excel in their studies, conduct research, and develop the digital skills that are essential in today's workforce.
The school was identified through the Corporation’s CSR initiative after they wrote pleading for assistance with renovation of the lab. The Corporation was quick to send a team to the school on a fact-finding mission. Upon return and compiling a report on the findings, management resolved to extend a helping hand by renovating the lab and further donating computers and a printer.
Renovations including removing the dilapidated ceiling and doors and replacing these with new ones. The works also included painting the interior, putting an emergency exit door and burglars, installing an air conditioner as well as fixing and painting the roof gutters. The project was completed at a total cost of P131,852.82.
