The Public Officers Housing Initiative (POHI) which was launched as part of the Economic Stimulus Programme in Machaneng this past Saturday is said to benefit citizen contractors some of who are already engaged to construct the 25 houses. Currently a total of 17 citizen owned contractors have been engaged to build the two bedroomed houses which will ease off dire accommodation shortage among public servants.

This initiative has managed to create jobs for 108 residents of Machaneng village who are now working for various companies that have been engaged for the construction of the houses. Among those hired to work for various contractors includes brick layers and labourers some of who had no prospect of getting jobs locally due to less activity in the area.
According to one of the contractors who won a tender for the construction of these houses, he has managed to employ five residents after his company struggled for a while due to the 2008 economic recession and lack of development projects in recent years.

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Lt. General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama launched the Public Officers Housing Initiative in Machaneng on Saturday, which coincided with the Economic Stimulus Programme national launch.
